Youth Work Courses From The Volunteer Network
Introduction to youth work training weekendWe are currently offering highly subsidised training for volunteers and staff running or helping out at youth clubs across Somerset and the surrounding counties in 2016/17.
The weekend course is a Level 1 Accredited Youth Work Award "A Foundation Award in Youth Work", The weekend will include: Recognising the range of issues that face young people Understanding the role of youth work in addressing young peoples' needs Developing and understanding of the legislation and policies which relate to working with young people Running group games, Working with hard to reach young people, Child protection Running a safe youth club Times The weekends will run from 9am to 5pm. Costs Full costs £120. Special rates available at £48 per student for the weekend with certification from The Volunteer Network Additional costs for formal accreditation if all requirements are met. Refreshments Water, tea and coffee is available throughout the weekend You are advised to bring a packed lunch or shops are close by, bear in mind lunch breaks are kept short to maximise learning. Level 2 & 3 Youth Work Training Course
Why Study Youth Work?
You must complete the Introduction to Youth Work course before starting the level 2 or 3 Certificate course.
If you are passionate about making an impression on young people’s lives, encouraging them and inspiring them then it is essential that you have the correct tool kit.
Many people naturally have good youth work skills but they often don’t know when, how or why to apply them. There are many variations of youth worker and any decent youth work course will help you to establish and refine the style that will be most effective for you.
Young people, although often looked on in a negative light are often the unrecognised great and the good of our communities and being an effective youth worker can bring continuing rewards and satisfaction, both personally and in your career.
Witnessing the positive changes in individuals, groups and communities changes in which you have played a part and knowing that the skills, games and activities you have learnt from your youth work training have enabled you to make a real difference is one of the most rewarding experiences that a youth worker can have.
The Volunteer Network have been working with young people since 1999 in both community and individual settings. We currently train around 30 youth workers each year, providing one off and on-going supervision services to youth workers in youth clubs and other settings throughout Somerset and beyond.

If you have multiple learners within the same setting we will be happy to come to you at an additional cost.
All further training dates for the course will be issued in the first session, including drop in / study time with your tutor.

Please remember when booking that you must undertake 'An Introduction to the Youth Work Sector' unit before progressing on to any of the other programmes.
This course will be run over the space of 12 months, and you must be delivering youth work in some capacity in order to evidence your work. Class room sessions will be approximately twice a month. Dates will be issued on the Induction day. See above for the start dates and booking form.
Apprenticeships may be considered, please talk to us if you are in full time employment in a youth work role.
If you want to take the level 3 course you will be subject to an interview (either in person or over the phone). As well as in a suitable placement/employment to meet the criteria.
