Welcome to reAction
What is reAction???
reAction is a new project running across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset. It is aimed at supporting any young person who is unemployed, homeless or living in either rural or social isolation.
Everyone supported under the reAction project will be invited to take part in training days, both with us at the Volunteer Network and with other training providers, community action events and periods of supported volunteering designed to build skills and increase confidence. What isn't reAction??? reAction is not linked to any programme being run through Job Centres or Work Programme providers. Taking part in reAction is wholly voluntary and you can pick and choose how many of the activities you will get involved with. If you start on the programme and then decide that it's not for you we won't mind, and it won't affect any benefits that you might be receiving. | Contact us about reActionYou can phone us on 01458 836130 or email info@volunteernetwork.org.uk

We'll also be supporting some communities to set up and run their own reAction projects so again get in touch if you would like to take on a reAction project locally to you.

reAction in a Nutshell
It is a five year project supporting young people across Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire
It grew out of our empty shop project which was initially set up with money from the Somerset Communty Foundation and Comic Relief
It is currently being funded by Lloyds TSB Foundation, BIG Lottery Fund and the Learning Communities Fund
It will target 2400 young people over five years who are one of the following:
* Unemployed
* Homeless
* Socially or rurally isolated
It will target specific areas of Somerset based on levels of need
The age range of those being supported will predominantly be 16-25 with about 5% of those supported being over the age of 25.
The project will be run with the support of the Job Centre Plus network but is not a part of the Work Programme or any other current scheme.
Beneficiaries will receive both accredited and informal training in employability, money management and life & social skills. They will also take part in periods of supported volunteering which will be focused on helping them develop both their levels of confidence and specific job related skills.
Areas of need have so far been identified using the Index of Multiple Deprivation in Somerset and currently based on towns within the top 50 most deprived areas and it has been piloted in Yeovil covering three of these deprived areas.
The first extention of the project will launch in January 2012 and will cover a further four areas in South Somerset, four in West Somerset and six in Mendip.
The project will work on a rolling basis and with the intention being that as far as possible we take the project out to where the young people are rather than expect them to come to us.
