Introduction to Criminal Records Bureau
In order to ensure that children, young people and vulnerable adults are safe in nurseries, schools, sports centres and other places where they are away from
the supervision of their parents or guardians, the CRB disclosure system has been introduced by the government. Purpose of the CRB disclosure The purpose of the CRB disclosure system is “…to reduce the risk of abuse by ensuring that those who are unsuitable are not able to work with children and vulnerable adults.”
The CRB disclosure form
You will be given help to complete the form which asks you for your current name and any previous names you have had; and your current address together with
your previous addresses in the past five years.
Disclosure
If your CRB disclosure returns with notification of convictions and/or reprimands/cautions, this will be
discussed with you.
Identification
In order to prove your identity and address, you will need to bring with you a number of original documents, not photocopies. There is a wide choice of documentation, but you must comply with the rules about the number of documents from each section.
Look at the document lists below. If you have one document listed in group 1, then you need to provide a further 2 documents from group 1 or 2; if you don’t
have a document listed in group 1, you must provide 5 documents from group 2.
NOTE –
all documents must be in the applicant’s current name. At least one document must confirm the applicant’s current address and at least one document must confirm the applicant’s date of birth.
Group One -
1. Passport
2. EU Photo Identity Card
3. Driving Licence (UK) (Full or provisional)
England/Wales/Scotland/Northern Ireland/Isle
of Man; either photocard or paper (a photo card
is only valid if the individual presents it with the
counterpart licence)
4. Birth Certificate (UK) - issued within 12 months of
date of birth - full or short form acceptable
5. HM Forces ID Card (UK)
6. Firearms Licence (UK)
7. Adoption Certificate (UK)
Group Two -
1. Marriage/Civil Partnership Certificate
2. Vehicle Registration Document
3. P45/P60 Statement (UK)
4. Exam Certificate e.g. GCSE, NVQ
5. Connexions Card (UK)
6. Certificate of British Nationality (UK)
7. Documentation issued by Court Services
8. NHS Card
9. National Insurance Card (UK)
Any of the following items should be less than 3
months old.
10.Bank/Building Society Statement
11.Utility Bill - electricity, gas, water, telephone -
including mobile phone contract/bill
12.Mail Order Catalogue Statement
13.Benefit Statement e.g. Child Allowance, Pension
14.A document from Central/Local Government/
Government Agency/Local Authority giving
entitlement (UK): e.g. from the Department for Work
