On Friday 22nd and 23rd of July we took part in the 'i-spot' bio-blitz at Glastonbury Abbey. A bio-blitz is a 24 hour count of all the wildlife in one particular setting.
This was a very relaxed volunteering event with Jenny, Briony, George, Jeni, Nick, Sue and Chris stewarding the front gate and registering all the bio-blitzers who came in.
When we weren't manning the front gate we were off in teams to identify, photograph, grid reference and then uploading our information about the bugs and wildlife we spotted.
The first day was lovely with a truely appreciated meal in the Glastonbury Tea rooms. Volunteers who stayed the night got to use sonar detection devises to help find bats who wizzed around whilst they tried to identify them.
The next day was just as good and started with bacon butties and croissants over lots of hot tea's and coffees.
Over 240 different species were identified and you can see some of our picci's on the 'i-spot website' at http://www.ispot.org.uk/ Thanks again to everyone who came along, you made alot of people very happy and a baby tarantula find a lovely new Mummy!
