Out Of the Box 3: The Review (with pictures!). Participants deep in thought during the Red Cross interactive workshop about the rules of war and the impact of conflict, entitled ‘Raid Cross’. This workshop is available free of charge, for youth clubs and schools in Dorset & Somerset.
SYVN says: Thank you so much to all of you that made it SYVN’s 3rd Out of the Box event on Thursday 12th June 2008! [We were v pleased to see you!!] We had a great day and it was an ideal opportunity for c.16 v organisations / funded projects to come together and see where we’re all at! If you would like to attend and have any ideas for next year’s Out Of the Box event in supporting and celebrating Young People and their involvement in volunteering, community action and active citizenship, then do let us know, particularly if you would like to put yourself forward for a workshop. We are keen for young people to be even more involved next year so any thoughts on making that happen will be appreciated. With best wishes from All at SYVN & the v Team/Project Click here or on 'read more' to read the review of the event, and see some of the pictures we took during the day. |

Petition for Cheaper Travel for Under 18's Below is a 10 Downing Street e-petition by UKYP. Both adults and young people can sign it. It calls for a travel concession card to be made available for every young person under the age of 18yrs.
As you may know young people are often asked to pay full adult fares if they can't prove they are aged under 16yrs. In Somerset and South West transport is a major issue and young people really want to do something about this.
Once the petition has reached its deadline (04 June 2009) it will be passed to officials who work for the Prime Minister in Downing Street, or sent to the relevant Government department for a response.
Please click on the link below and sign the petition. Why not tell your friends and family and co-workers about it, and ask them to do the same?!

Volunteer Rewarded For Fight Against Bullying. A hard working and motivated SYVN volunteer has been chosen to receive a prestigious award for her outstanding contribution to mediation services in her school. Along with her four co-leaders, Abigail was chosen to receive the Diana Anti-Bullying Award in recognition of her commitment to resolving bullying problems. Head of year ten, Bill Revans, said: "We are very proud of the work these girls have done to support our anti-bullying work in school. They all have a quiet, mature and determined approach to their role as peer mediation team leaders. Their actions have undoubtedly had a huge impact." Ivan Lewis MP launched the Diana Anti-Bullying Award, set up in partnership with the Anti-Bullying Alliance, in July 2004. The award recognises the contribution of children and young people up to the age of 18 to tackling bullying in their schools and communities. |
